Celebrating the mode of gamification meets hospitality, Agent Jack’s packages the art of negotiating the price of your tipple in a whole new hi-tech manner.
Back in the Nineties in Mumbai, if you wanted a really good pubbing experience with fab retro and contemporary pop music, there was only ONE place you would head to in the suburbs – On Toes in Juhu.
On Toes was the second pub to open in Mumbai. The first was Rasna Pub at Churchgate. What made these two places so high profile is that fact that on any given night, you’d find a smattering of fashion’s top models and Bollywood stars hanging out with their friends and just having a good time.
This was before the era of mobile phones and hence, apart from the odd request for an autograph, the celebrities were pretty much left to enjoy themselves without numerous fans asking to take a selfie.
Fast Forward to twenty years down the line and the guys from On Toes are on a roll with their latest offering called Agent Jack’s which has twelve outlets across India.
This however, is not just another pub. What sets it apart from the rest is that you can actually negotiate the price of your drinks via their user-friendly app from the app store and from Google Play on android.
Says Dibyendu Bindal, co-owner of Agent Jack’s, “Agent Jack’s Bar packages the art of negotiating in a whole new hi-tech manner. Notching up the experience in comparison to other tech savvy bar’s in the city, the technology at Agent Jack’s Bar introduces virtual reality with the Agent Jack app – an interactive interface that helps our patrons crack the best deals for their choice of drinks. Using the app, a consumer places his order to a virtual bartender and negotiates on the pricing.”
When we tried it out last night, we actually managed to score a large Blender’s Pride for just Rs.100/- while our friend, designer Kristy D’Cunha, was happy to negotiate a Cosmopolitan (served in a metal goblet) for just Rs.170/-
If the app rejects the offer you make, a sarcastic joke made at your expense pops up on your phone screen and also on a large screen in the restaurant for all to see. So beware before you try to be a bit too miserly.
The newest outlet is at Veera Desai Road in Andheri West (Mumbai) and boasts of a swanky 10,000 sq ft. restaurant with an eclectic bar in the middle. It even has a party room which can accommodate 100 people.
What we loved most is the innovative way in which the food was served. Fish fingers were served to us in a shoe-shaped dish, the chicken platter was not a regular platter but a shovel, chaknas were served in tiny polka dot pails and French Fries were served in a miniature version of a bullock cart. Very charming, indeed!
