House of Mandarin Celebrates Year Of The Rat with a new Menu

Mandarin style roast chicken

As Chinese people across the globe celebrate the Year Of The Rat – The Zodiacal Rat is the first of the repeating 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac, constituting part of the Chinese calendar system House of Mandarin in Mumbai has launched a new menu to coincide with the occasion.

Chicken & mushroom dumplings

The “limited edition” menu features an array of dumplings such as the Wild Mushroom Dumpling, Exotic Vegetables & Basil Dumpling, Chicken & Mushroom Dumpling and Black Pepper Prawn Dumpling as starters.

For the main course, you can opt for Fujian Fried Rice with Black Mushroom, Fresh Mushroom, Water Chestnut & Asparagus; Mandarin style Glass Noodles with steamed Asparagus & Bell Pepper Sauce; Wok tossed Sliced Red Snapper with Sweet & Spicy Sauce or Classic Roast Chicken with Pok Choy, Black Mushroom & Oyster Sauce.

People who love a wide variety of choices will feel that this “limited edition” menu is a bit too limited. For example, there are no choices for soup. And in the starter section, there are just two vegetarian and two non-vegetarian options, as mentioned above. Ditto for the main course.

While the starring dishes are undoubtedly flavourful and the ingredients are absolutely fresh, we were expecting something more unusual, exotic, celebratory and out of the ordinary.

Beijing Cosmo

We particularly loved the well conjured up cocktails such as the Macau Sunrise, Beijing Cosmo & Ming Dynasty Marble. Don’t forget to try each of them for a heady buzz.
