M.I.T.R.O.N, a new hang-out at Saki Naka in Mumbai wants to recreate the vibe of the fictitious Central Perk from F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
When you step in to M.I.T.R.O.N at the Peninsula Grand Hotel at the busy Sakinaka junction in Mumbai, you half expect to find Gunther behind the counter, dishing out a cappuccino… or Ross, Monica, Phoebe, Joey and the rest of the gang sprawled across a sofa which is seemingly always reserved for them.
What you find instead, is a warm lounge bar with the faint feel of a British pub and popular music being played on the speakers.
Imran Bhatkar, the affable man at the helm of this hang-out, tells us:
“M.I.T.R.O.N is a friendly bar inspired by the concept of friendship and bonding. The pocket-friendly nature of the bar & cafe incorporates offers like ‘bigger the group, bigger the discount’ and ‘the more you order, the less you spend” – thereby making it a sweet spot for a homely neighbourhood bar like feel.”
M.I.T.R.O.N prides itself on the array of signature cocktails it has on the menu, all of which are served in innovative glasses, bottles or containers.
We particularly loved the cocktails which are served in vintage soda bottles where you have to pop a marble as a stopper to pour yourself a drink.
As for the food, it’s the fusion cuisine that had us hooked.
Anda Bhurji Nachos, Murg Makhani Rissotto, Paneer Bruschetta, Roomali Prawns, Misal Bunny Chow, Kadai Pizza and Naan Burger are just a few of the fusion dishes that jostle for space on the menu.
Neither Indian nor Italian, neither Spanish nor Mughlai – the soulful fusion of contrasting flavours and rich aromas make for a delectable experience if you are a foodie.
