Ayush Srivastava -a self-confessed Bollywood addict, reports on the National Jewelry Awards which was held in Mumbai over the weekend.
Being from a smaller city like Allahabad and never having attended a huge award ceremony before, it was with much enthusiasm and excitement that I attended the 7th edition of the National Jewellery Awards, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Mumbai last week.
As soon as I descended the stairs from the lobby to the ballroom, where the function was being held, I was greeted by the sight of dazzling jewelry and scintillating diamonds which were displayed prominently behind a huge glass showcase.
The venue was teeming with ladies bedecked in their finest baubles and gentlemen wearing their Sunday best.
I was happy to spot former movie star (and jewelry designer) Neelam Kothari in conversation with Achla Sachdev in a discreet corner while actresses Kim Sharma and Preeti Jhangiani were busy giving video bytes to the media on the red carpet.
And of course, how could I miss the legendary super star – Zeenat Aman – who looked effortlessly elegant and drop dead gorgeous. She was one of the esteemed judges.
The awards ceremony was peppered with engaging and fun acts by talented dancers, who grooved to popular Bollywood songs.
However, the highlight of the show was comedian Sunil Grover (aka Gutthi) who had the audience in splits with his fabulous stand-up comedy skits.
In fact, I was one of the lucky few who got to woo Gutthi on stage and won her hand for marriage.
Also making her stellar presence felt on the stage was Bollywood diva Vani Kapoor who walked the ramp in a truly beautiful ensemble by the very talented designer, Amy Billimoria.
This fashion showcase was directed and choreographed by Achla Sachdev who has just returned after a successfully putting together a blockbuster fashion show at the IIFA Awards in New York.
This was truly a spectacular event which was presented on a grand scale and I’m already looking forward to attending the National Jewelry Awards in 2018.
