These lines from a media statement by Dior aptly sum up a heady bottle of Sauvage, the newest fragrance for men which has been launched a whole decade after their last perfume for men hit the shelves.
What makes the campaign for Sauvage rather iconic and surreal is that Johnny Depp is the face of the new scent.
Throughout his critically applauded acting career, Depp has never been the face of any brand – ever! Though offers have undoubtedly poured in by the thousands over the years, Depp has never bitten the bait of the staggering sums which would have definitely been offered to him.
But this time around, it was Depp who approached the House of Dior to be the face of Sauvage, a perfume which will undoubtedly skyrocket to as iconic a status as the star, himself.
At the official launch in Mumbai yesterday, we were treated to a generous whiff of Sauvage which we fell in love with immediately. The earthy, woody, slightly fruity aroma had us reminiscing about a walk in the woods on a crisp spring day. It had us reminiscing about a lazy day by the ocean or an adolescent adventure in a long-forgotten attic in our grand parent’s house.
Says Francois Demachy, creator of the perfume, “I used a man as my starting point. A strong and unmistakable masculinity. Like the image of a man who transcends time and fashion.I had the idea of a clear direction, strong statements. It was a stone in the rough that I chiseled and shaped.”
