From the Front Row at the Burberry fashion show at London Fashion Week, our friend Nakul Patel sends in his review of what to expect from the brand in 2018.
Whenever it’s London Fashion Week, the one key date everyone tends to look out for is the date of the Burberry fashion show. This was the second time I have been invited to attend the showing by this awesome, heritage brand and I loved every bit of it.
The show was set in the 18th century Old Sessions House, which has still retained its Gothic look inside despite Burberry turning it into a photo gallery. It was cool since “old school” is a huge trend these days. The seats were not uniform as one would imagine them to be. Instead, random chairs of different designs were placed on either side of the aisles, making for a pretty yet incongruent picture.
Burberry really seem to be going in with the whole hipster vibe and at the same time they’re going back to their roots.
In fact, a lot of the new designs were fashioned in an old school style and the vintage tartan check was back in many of the designs for men and women. From caps to bags, coats and trousers – when it comes to Burberry, anything that features the vintage tartan check is always a winner. This is one of the reasons I was instantly drawn to the vintage check Gabardine Harrington Jacket. It’s perfect for the casual outing and practically goes with whatever you’re wearing. And although similar looks have been around for years, it never gets old.
Another jacket that caught my eye was the Wool Cropped Ceremonial Jacket. It’s a jacket that will split opinion due to the fact that it’s indeed cropped and people generally have mixed feelings about such jackets but if you put it together with the right items of clothing, it’s something that will look great. It has a very royal feel about it.
As the winter season is approaching in both London and New York (the cities I will be in for the upcoming months), I was on the lookout for a winter jacket and I have my answer in the form of the Camel Hair Wool Chesterfield. It’s very simple and yet, that simplicity is what makes it perfect. Sometimes we just want something to go with whatever we’re wearing and not overpower but just simply compliment and again that’s what we have here. It’s got the quality and elegance, something Burberry have emanated over the years.
To put it all in a nutshell, this was a spanking good show, very well organised and boasted of an excellent collection for both men and women. Class personified is how I’ve always viewed Burberry and my thoughts remain very much the same.
