Kristy DeCunha is known for her artistic hand-drawn prints which she translates onto fabric to create one-off couture pieces which are much sought after by the Bollywood brigade.
The courtyard of Mumbai’s famed Olive Bar & Kitchen came alive on Tuesday night at the second edition of The Olive Canvas With Ranjit Rodricks where Kristy DeCunha – best known as the Princess of Kitsch – previewed a glimpse of her summer couture collection to a discerning audience.
Over potent Stolichnaya Vodka cocktails (courtesy of our Aspri Spirits), the effervescent and cherubic designer had a number of her close friends play muse by preening and posing in couture outfits from her latest collection, which is called “Gol Gol Rani, Freedie Mercurie”.
Among them were former supermodel Achla Sachdev, VJ, actor and singer Ramona Arena, celebrity makeup artist Clint Fernandes and Bollywood personal trainer Maya Pereira Sawant.
The collection is “Basically about celebrating the colourful life of the 70’s rock legend, Freddy Mercury of Queen,” reveals Kristy. This explains the profusion of Freddie Mercury images on her clothes, all of which have been painstakingly hand-drawn and then digitally printed.
Also spotted at the event were actress Guunjan Walia and designers Karn Malhotra, Harsh Harsh, Nidhi Munim.
